RESTORATION BAPTIST CHURCH, MONTGOMERY, AL., WAS ORGANIZED ON COBB STREET UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF JOE PATTERSON IN JULY OF 1920. JOE PATTERSON SERVED AS PASTOR FOR TWO YEARS. AFTER HIS TENURE, C.W. WILLIAMS WAS FOLLOWED BY H.H. CURRY, LED THE CONGREGATION. DURING THIS TIME, THE CONGREGATION MOVED TO DIFFERENT LOCATIONS. IN 1963, THE MINISTRY WAS UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF PASTOR SMITH. AT THIS TIME, THE CHURCH WAS LOCATED ON ORUM STREET.
ISSUES WITHIN THE MINISTRY SEPARATED THE MEMBERSHIP, RESULTING IN SOME CONGREGANTS ORGANIZING THE MORGAN AVENUE BAPTIST CHURCH. STILL, OTHERS MOVED TO JEFFERSON DAVIS STREET AND FORMED AZELL BAPTIST CHURCH UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF PASTOR PATTERSON. FROM 1984 UNTIL 1987, THE MINISTRY WAS IN THE PASTORAL CARE OF PASTOR MORRIS FOSTER, FOLLOWED BY PASTOR O'REE. IN 1998, THE MINISTRY WAS UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF PASTOR BASS. THE MONTGOMERY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM OBTAINED THE PROPERTY WHERE THE CHURCH WAS LOCATED. THE SCHOOL BOARD'S ACTION FACILITATED YET ANOTHER MOVE. THE CHURCH PURCHASED AND RELOCATED TO THE PROPERTY AT 3860 SOUTH COURT STREET. IN 2002, MARSHALL BOYKIN SERVED AS PASTOR UNTIL 2008. UNDER HIS ADMINISTRATION, THE CHURCH'S NAME WAS CHANGED TO RESTORATION BAPTIST CHURCH.
AFTER AN EXTENDED PERIOD WITHOUT AN OFFICIAL PASTOR, BISHOP CLARENCE E. STEWART, JR., WAS CALLED TO SERVE IN FEBRUARY 2012. DURING HIS ADMINISTRATION, AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST MINISTRIES UNITED WITH RESTORATION BAPTIST CHURCH TO FORM ONE BODY OF BELIEVERS. IN 2014, THE MINISTRY WAS AFFORDED THE OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE THE VACATED HARRISON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COMPLEX AT 164 EAST SOUTH BOULEVARD. TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY, RESTORATION PURCHASED AND RELOCATED TO ITS PRESENT LOCATION IN OCTOBER OF THE SAME YEAR. THE FIRST OFFICIAL SERVICE WAS HELD IN THE NEW AND CURRENT LOCATION ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5TH. RESTORATION EXPERIENCED EXPONENTIAL, SPIRITUAL, NUMERICAL, AND FINANCIAL GROWTH DURING BISHOP STEWART'S NINE-YEAR PASTORAL TENURE.
YET, IN 2020, AFTER MUCH PRAYER AND GUIDANCE FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT, BISHOP STEWART FELT LED TO TRANSITION INTO ANOTHER PHASE OF MINISTRY. THUS, HE FORMALLY ANNOUNCED THAT HE WOULD SOON "PASS THE MANTLE OF MINISTRY." ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 15TH, 2021, AMID THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, BISHOP STEWART AND THE RESTORATION CHURCH FAMILY FORMALLY INSTALLED PASTOR TRE' STEWART AS THE CHURCH'S NEW PASTOR. HAVING RECEIVED THE MANTLE OF MINISTRY AND THE PASTORATE, WITH THE AID OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, PASTOR TRE' NAVIGATED THE MINISTRY THROUGH THE PANDEMIC WHILE MINISTERING TO, RECEIVING, AND BAPTIZING NEW MEMBERS. AS OF 2023, RESTORATION HAS WITNESSED STEADY GROWTH AND STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT OF MINISTRIES TO HELP AID AND DEVELOP THE BODY OF RESTORATION CHURCH.
IN JANUARY 2024, GOD DIRECTED PASTOR TRE TO DECLARE THAT 2024 IS THE YEAR TO “CONQUER.” THIS DECLARATION WAS MANIFESTED SIGNIFICANTLY ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13TH, AT 10:28 A.M., WHEN RESTORATION CONQUERED ITS BIGGEST DEBT, ITS MORTGAGE, BY PAYING IT IN FULL, THEREBY SECURING THE CURRENT PROPERTY OF THE CHURCH FOR THE GLORY OF GOD! AS RESTORATION MOVES FORWARD, THE CHURCH REMAINS COMMITTED TO THE CALL OF GOD CONCERNING THIS MINISTRY!
